Zissimos Bar
About This Spot
Stepping into Zissimos Bar in Baltimore’s Hampden neighborhood is like slipping into a well-loved local retreat where the pace slows just enough to catch your breath. The long bar, stretching invitingly before you, promises conversations that ebb and flow as easily as the drinks that fill the glasses. It’s the kind of place that welcomes both familiar faces and newcomers with a quiet warmth — a spot where evenings unfold organically, whether you're here just to unwind or to share a laugh with friends.
Downstairs, the atmosphere holds onto that classic dive bar comfort: unpretentious and low-key, with just the right mix of friendly resilience and neighborhood charm. The drinks arrive with no fuss but plenty of heart, each sip carrying a familiar ease that encourages lingering. And if you prefer a break from just standing, there are sturdy stools along the bar and cozy spots to settle into, creating a casual scene that never feels rushed.
Venture upstairs and the vibe shifts subtly into something a little more intimate and animated. The Lou Room hosts a variety of local talents — from fresh stand-up acts to live music that draws a close-knit crowd. There’s a gentle hum of encouragement in the air, a feeling of community that’s especially welcoming to the diverse and vibrant LGBTQ+ scene of Baltimore. Here, a few scattered tables allow the audience to choose their own comfort, lending a sense of ease whether you’re there for the show or the shared company.
Karaoke nights add a playful rhythm to the weekly calendar, inviting patrons to step into the spotlight or cheer on friends, creating moments of joyful connection amid the spirited backdrop. The drinks menu complements this lively mix, offering familiar staples that suit the uncomplicated and honest spirit of the place — nothing extravagant, just solid choices that fit naturally into the celebration of the everyday.
Zissimos Bar stands as a quietly steady presence in the neighborhood — a place where the human moments matter most, and where every visit feels like catching up with a slightly eccentric, deeply grounded friend.

Both bars are great (downstairs and upstairs). Upstairs has shows (comedy and music) in a really nice, low-key show space. Bartenders are great. Show space has a few tables and chairs for those who prefer not to stand the whole time.

I only go to watch the free open mic comedy shows. I enjoy the cringey new comedians who have bad sets. It terribly awesome. The comedy room upstairs is very LGBTQA+o friendly, and a lot of cute people hang out upstairs

Go here from time to time. Karaoke more than once, Mondays mostly. They have Astrodon from peabody and strong drink!

The Lou Room upstairs is great for live music, downstairs is a solid dive bar.

This neighborhood bar always comes in clutch when I want a drink and meetup with friends. The bar is very long, the drinks are stiff, and the service is awesome. Karaoke was super fun too!
